First published in 1964, The Grotto student newspaper has long been the editorial voice and foundation of student news at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy. The Grotto prides itself most on being the voice of the student community and educating the girls to be confident in their abilities to reach their goals.
Published six to seven times annually by a small staff of 10-15 students, the newspaper covers topics and issues relevant to the entire school community ranging from news and feature stories to opinion pieces about school issues and culture. Led by an editor-in-chief, students manage all phases of the publication’s production, including story development, writing and reporting, layout and graphic design, photography, and business operations.
Advised by Rebecca Quesada Retana ’95, who also advises the school’s literary magazine, the Literati, The Grotto continues to fill the campus with issue- driven stories of interest and relevance to the entire school community.
The Grotto belongs to the Florida Scholastic Press Association, Quill & Scroll, the National Scholastic Press Association and Columbia Scholastic Press Association.
