The Cross Country Team at Our Lady of Lourdes Academy participated in the King of the Hill Race, Sept. 9. The JV Team placed first, and the Varsity Team placed second. Freshman Rebecca Bergnes led the Bobcats, placing tenth overall.
The King of the Hill Cross Country Race – the largest Cross Country Race in South Florida – is hosted by Our Lady of Lourdes Academy, in conjunction with Christopher Columbus High School, under the direction of each school’s Head Cross Country Coach – Mrs. Rebecca Michalak ’99 and Mr. Eric Pino ’00, respectively. The Race, which is sponsored by Go Run Miami and takes place at Tropical Park, welcomes close to 1,500 from around the county.
In addition to athletic competition, the King of the Hill Race provides hands-on learning to the student’s enrolled in the Sports Medicine Program, at Lourdes Academy. Led by Head Athletic Trainer Ms. Belinda Rodriguez, students attended to athletes suffering from heat illness, extreme fatigue and lower extremity injuries. Sports Medicine is one of more than 60 elective courses offered at Lourdes Academy, intended to help students explore new interests and pursue their passions.
